New Jersey Tentative Agreement: Subject to Ratification

The tentative 4-year contract includes:

  • Strike Vote and Rally on Dec. 15, 2011

    Pay raises averaging 13% statewide and new rates for 300 members in South Jersey.

  • EXPANDED PENSION & RETIREMENT SECURITY: Our pension benefit now covers part-time workers in Newark & the Hudson Waterfront.
  • MAINTAINED HEALTH CARE and kept health insurance 100% employer-paid.
  • IMPROVEMENTS TO PROTECT VACATION PAY
  • EXPANDED BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: A member can now take bereavement leave upon the death of his/her domestic partner and grandparents.
  • GREATER PROTECTIONS REGARDING BUILDING TRANSFERS
  • BACKGROUND CHECK PROTECTION: Written customer notice must be provided to the union prior to background checks.
  • PROTECTIONS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL CUSTODIANS

  • A total pay increase of 10% over 4 years
  • Increased employer payments to protect health care at no cost to 32BJ members.
  • Reasonable workload protections.
  • Working supervisors cannot issue disciplinary actions against 32BJ members and they must perform physical work.

By standing strong, we made important gains in our new 4-year contract. Your 32BJ Bargaining Committee has reached a tentative agreement with Delaware’s cleaning contractors that includes pay raises and benefit improvements.

Only 1 day remains before the expiration of the contract covering thousands of office cleaners in New York City. These contracts expire on January 1, 2012 at 12:01 am.

We are also in contract talks for the Philadelphia Suburbs which expire on January 16, 2012 at 12:01 am.

We have tentative agreements for office cleaners in Hartford & New Haven, Conn.; New Jersey; Delaware; and Fairfield County, Conn. & Hudson Valley Office Cleaners.

22,000 New York office cleaners are in the last days of negotiations. And it’s not looking good. Employers are still insisting on major cuts to pay and benefits.

32BJ members are among New York’s working families already struggling to get by. We just can’t accept cuts that would make it that much harder to support our families.
